Vancouver Youth Model United Nations
The Twenty-First Iteration | October 23-25, 2026 | Robert H. Alumni Centre
Dear Prospective Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Parents,
My name is James Wang, and on behalf of the entire Secretariat team and West Point Grey Academy, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the 21st iteration of the Vancouver Youth Model United Nations. This year, the conference will be held from October 23rd to 25th at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre, nestled in the heart of the University of British Columbia.
When VYMUN was founded 21 years ago, its purpose was simple but profound: to give young people a space to take risks, learn through experience, and grow before the stakes grew higher. That mission feels more urgent today than ever.
We live in an era of deepening division. Lines of ideology, identity, and belief cut through communities and nations alike. It is precisely in this climate that VYMUN 2026 invites students to engage in discourse through difference — this year's conference theme. Real progress has never come from talking only to those who already agree with us. It comes from the willingness to step across the aisle, to listen with genuine curiosity and open-mindedness, and to find common ground even in the presence of disagreement.
For many delegates, VYMUN will be their first introduction to Model UN, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is to build an environment where students of all experience levels feel supported to speak up, take risks, and grow: whether that means delivering their first speech in committee, navigating a difficult negotiation, or simply discovering a passion for international affairs. Across 10 unique committees, delegates will tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges, developing not only their diplomacy and public speaking skills, but also the confidence to use them.
For the past months, our Staff and Secretariat teams have poured their energy into crafting an experience that is rigorous, meaningful, and unforgettable. We are deeply grateful to the teachers and parents who champion these students every day, and we encourage you wholeheartedly to support them in attending VYMUN 2026.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at sg@vymun.org. I look forward to meeting you all this October!
Sincerely,
James Wang
